Former Indian cricketer was in the hot tub when the Kerala Police filed a cheating complaint against him. Sareesh Gopalan, a resident of Kerala’s Choonda, filed the complaint, alleging that two other individuals, Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini, stole Rs.18.70 lakh from him for the building of a sports academy in Kollur, Karnataka, where Sreesanth is also a partner.

According to the legal action, Gopalan promised to become a partner in the sports academy if he invested the money. Sreesanth is the third accused in the case, which has been registered under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with defrauding and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.

He made his ODI debut in October 2005 and went on to play 53 matches, taking 75 wickets. His test debut was in March 2006, when he played in 27 matches and took 87 wickets. However, his career was derailed when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned him for life in August 2013 owing to spot-fixing suspicions during the IPL season 6. Sreesanth and two Rajasthan Royals teammates were detained in connection with these charges by the Delhi Police.

S Sreesanth Faces Cheating Allegations

He was acquitted in the spot-fixing case in July 2015, and the Supreme Court reduced his lifetime punishment to seven years in 2019. He served his sentence in September 2020 and tried a comeback by being nominated to the Kerala Cricket Association’s 20-member squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021. Despite being named to the IPL auction shortlist in both 2021 and 2022, he went unsold on both occasions.

Sreesanth declared his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2022. His decision was announced on social media, where he expressed gratitude for his cricketing adventure and declared that the time had come to call it brakes for good.

This legal issue complicates Sreesanth’s post-ban challenges and may have an impact on his reputation in the cricketing community. The action will most certainly move via the legal system, and Sreesanth will have to navigate the proceedings to address the claims leveled against him.
